Still Snow In The Shade

The snow has began melting and is mostly gone except in areas that are shaded. Stacey and I took Daisy out of the pen and let her run across the creek from the house today.

Check out all the footprints in the left picture below. Those are not Daisy's tracks but she could smell something.

Farther back in the 'holler' there weren't any tracks across the snow.

Fresh Snow

All the snow that was on the ground melted Monday and Tuesday when it rained and the temperature was above 60 degrees.
This morning, about 4 AM it began snowing again. We have at least 2" on the ground now.

The forecast is for the snow to continue until at least noon, maybe slightly longer. Some areas near Elizabethtown are reporting ONE FOOT of snow already on the ground. I hope that passes us by!

*Update @ 3:30 PM CST*
We received about 3-4 inches of snow in our area of Cumberland County.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. - Governor Steve Beshear has declared a state of emergency and deployed Kentucky National Guard to help with relief efforts. The state has been walloped by a winter storm that has dumped nearly two feet of snow in parts of the Bluegrass state. Guardsmen were firing up Humvees to make emergency medical runs and rescue motorists stranded by a winter storm that has dumped up to 20 inches of snow in parts of the state. Kentucky Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Kirk Hilbrecht said more than 75 guardsmen have been dispatched for emergency missions since the storm hit. The Guard has helped rescue stranded motorists along Interstate 65 and the Western Kentucky Parkway in the Elizabethtown area. Stranded motorists were being taken to a warming center in Elizabethtown. He said guardsmen were also picking up stranded motorists along I-24 in the Paducah area in western Kentucky. In Marshall and Hardin counties, guardsmen were helping transport emergency personnel and medical patients. The National Weather Service said Ohio County in western Kentucky has been blanketed by 23 inches of snow. Snowfall has reached 21.5 inches in Radcliff, south of Louisville, and in Cynthiana in north-central Kentucky.

Seth Plays @ Dixie

Stacey, Linda and I went to the Dixie Cafe in Byrdstown for dinner and to listen to live music. Jennifer Antoniotti-Neal is friends with Linda. Jennifer's husband, Lee Neal, plays guitar there every month and he has taught Jennifer's son, Seth, to play guitar. It was Seth's first time to play in public. As soon as we sat down, Diane & Gerry Scott tapped me on the shoulder and began talking to us. They joined us at the table and we chatted the entire evening. They just recently moved from Daleville to the Byrdstown area. During the conversation, Diane remarked that they had met another person from Daleville living in the Byrdstown area. Her maiden name was Loretta Norrod. I told Diane and Gerry that Loretta used to live next door to me in Daleville when I was a kid. A few minutes later, Diane pointed out Loretta and I knew it was her as soon as I saw her face. I spoke with her a few minutes as I was walking back to my seat, then Loretta came over and talked with us. Geez, it was like going back to Daleville in the middle of TN. LoL OK, back to the reason we went to the Dixie Cafe, the waitress brought our dinners and the band began playing. After a few songs, they called Seth to the stage, introduced him and then they began playing. They gave Seth a small solo in the middle of the song and he had a good show. Click this link to see a video. We stayed till the music was over and then said so long to everyone, then drove home.

Pacer Game with Jason

Friday we Stacey and I picked up Jason at 3 PM and went back to the farm. Linda had come home from working at the school and was getting things ready for all of us to leave. We packed our things in the Chevy truck and I drove towards IN in the rain. We made it through Louisville and was half way to Indy before dark. About 30 miles south of Indy we encountered a single car wreck that nearly stopped traffic for about 20 minutes. We eventually made it through the traffic jam and went on to Chesterfield, then bought groceries and a pizza. At the Daleville house we unloaded the truck in the rain and went inside, turned up the heat and turned on the water, then ate our pizza. After about an hour, everyone went to bed.
Saturday morning, Linda fixed pancakes and sausage for breakfast, then Linda called her Mom and told her we were heading to her house in Pendleton. Everyone went inside at Nana's and sat in the kitchen to talk. We ate some of her 5lb Hershey Chocolate candy bar while we were talking and playing with the dogs. We all hugged Nana on the porch before leaving. Stacey wanted Jason to see where we lived when she was a kid, so I drove us through Park Estates and had them get out for a picture in front of the house.

We then went back to Daleville and prepared to go to the Pacer game. We left early and drove to Indy, made one lap around the Bankers' Life Fieldhouse and found a good parking spot. We made the short walk to the entrance and went inside, were pointed to our seats in the lower section and sat down. No problems and fairly good seats with plenty of time for Stacey and Linda to go to the gift shop before the game.

About a half hour later, the lights went down and the announcer started making the starting lineups on the public address system as fireworks were going off. The lights came on and the tip off started the game.

The Boston Celtics took the early lead, then the Pacers made a come back and the game was still close at halftime as we enjoyed some of the acts during the breaks.

The ex-Butler University coach, Brad Stevens, did some excellent coaching in the second half and the Celtics led most of the way.

The Pacers closed the scoring margin at the end of the game, but after several late game timeouts, the Celtics ruined Stacey's day by beating the Pacers.

We left the Fieldhouse arena and headed back towards Daleville. Stacey and Jason were both wanting to eat, so we stopped in Anderson and ate at Steak 'n' Shake. Jason was surprised the place was open, it wasn't only open, it was packed and people kept coming in after we were seated at 11:15 PM. I told him this place was not like Burkesville where they roll up the sidewalks at 9 PM. LoL
Sunday morning, we ate breakfast at the Daleville house, then packed our stuff and headed to KY. Everyone slept as I drove from Indy to Louisville. I called ahead to Kingfish so they would have our order ready when we arrived. It was a good thing I did as their parking lot was full and people were expecting a 45 minute wait for a table. We avoid these delays by ordering take out and eating outside on their patios. We went to the restroom, then picked up our food without a wait, then walked down to the patio by the river and ate. The Ohio River was slightly flooded and there was river water in the edge of the parking lot where I parked.

About forty minutes after arriving, we were ready to leave and continue our trip home. We took Jason home at 3:45 PM, talked with Stephanie and Tommy a few minutes as we held Stephanie's grandbaby, Skylar, then we drove home to the farm.
