Kyle & Weekend
After watching Kyle play basketball from noon till 1 PM Saturday,
Stacey, Linda & I went to Glasgow to eat. We chose Applebee's and went
inside, placed our orders and were enjoying our drinks in the mean time.
Then Linda saw two people we had known when they were kids going to
Warren East Middle School. Rachael Swisher and Phillip James were now
married and came over to talk to Linda and I. We were able to get caught
up on their lives and told them a little bit of what happened with us
after Linda left WEMS. The conversation politely broke up when our
waitress brought our food, but it was nice to see how they had grown up.
We left Applebee's and went across the road to Walmart for a few
groceries, then to Ralphie's
Fun Center to pick up Kyle. He had been attending a birthday party
and the party was over. We picked up a car seat from Brent and loaded
Kyle into the Malibu, then we headed back to the farm. I had to argue
with Kyle about meaningless things so he would stay awake the last 15
miles. Grandma Linda even told him we had moved the farm and painted it
red.
Sunday, Linda fixed pancake batter and I cooked the pancakes. We
let Kyle play for a while, then a little before 11 AM we went to take
Daisy for a run. The Mule was running funny, like it had some water in
the gas, so we made a shorter trip and just went across the creek from
the house for our ride.
We
were able to make it back across the creek, put Daisy in her stall and
park the Mule in the barn without it quiting.
I
will get something to put in the tank to remove water from the gas and I
hope that takes care of the problem.

Valentine's Day
The three of us left the farm early in the HHR to watch the next to last
game that Kyle will play this year. The game was at 9 AM and we arrived
a few minutes before the start. Both teams showed marked improvement
with Kyle being involved more than anytime previously. After the game,
we went over to Pauline and Brent's house for about an hour, then we
headed back to the farm. Jason had asked Stacey to go out to eat with
him, Kristi & Bryant, Stephanie & Tommy, and then to go to a Travis
Tritt concert at the Plaza Theatre. Jason had also sent Stacey a bouquet
of roses for Valentine's Day.
We
picked up some Wendy's sandwiches at 11 AM for the ride back to the
farm. Linda helped Stacey with her hair and they eventually had
everything ready, so we took Stacey over to Jason's place at 3:30 PM. We
took a picture of Stacey and Jason while we talked to Stephanie, then we
headed home.
Stephanie
& Tommy brought Stacey back to the farm and dropped her off a little bit
before 11 PM. She came in the bedroom and told me she had a great time.
She said they had ate at Colton's Steakhouse and then went to the
concert. Stacey said Travis put on a good show, that he sang a lot of
his hits and the "sold out" crowd liked the show.

Deep Snow
There had been predictions of a winter storm headed our way for a day or
two, so we had went to the store and bought groceries and filled up our
wood racks. We had also filled up some buckets of water in case the
power or water went off. The snow began shortly after midnight. It was a
fine powdery snow that just kept falling straight down, never letting
up. By noon, we had at least five inches on the ground when I went
outside, started the truck and let it run a few minutes while I shoveled
part of the sidewalk.
Then
I walked to the barn and started the Mule while Linda took over the
shoveling. I drove the Mule down to the pole barn and opened the door,
then fired up the tractor with the scoop. I cleaned our driveway off and
several of the neighbors' drives before going inside to warm up. The
walkway that we had shoveled was already covered with snow again. The
predictions of the meteorologist had been between 6 to 8 inches of snow
for our area. At 4 PM CST we had 7.5 inches of snow as shown by the
picture below on the left. The picture on the right was taken at 7 PM
CST, after the snow had stopped falling.
I'm
fairly sure that will be the end of the snow for at least a day or two.
It probably won't melt until about Saturday as the temperatures are
supposed to remain below freezing until then.

Card Puzzle Done
After nearly every school in KY was out the entire week, kids were ready
to play with nearly anything. Pauline & Brent came over with their kids
and Julie helped Stacey finish the puzzle that Linda had been helping
work.
It
was a difficult puzzle because there were no edge pieces and all the
card backs looked the same.
After lunch, when the rain had slowed
down, we dressed warmly and went outside for a short round of sleding
down the slope in front of the house.

Good Friend Gone
A good friend of ours passed away. Dick Stevenson was a close friend of
mine since I was 8 years old. We hung around together, played in sports,
drank beer and went places together. I ran into Dick in Chesterfield,
outside the grocery store and we did the 'guy hug' thing, then we both
went inside and walked through the store talking as we put groceries in
the carts. I didn't have a clue that would be the last time I saw him. I
hate to have lost such a good friend this soon.
