Tree Down

We had a few days of heavy rain and strong winds that kept us inside. The rain ended and then the temperatures were above 70 degrees. It was a record high for Nashville. With the ground being really wet and the wind, there was a tree blown down on the side of the hill. I started trimming away the small limbs and shoving them out of the hay field with the tractor scoop as usual. I've cleaned up the debris and Stacey and Linda picked up the small pieces, that we can burn in the stove, as I cut them. Now it is time for Brent to come over and climb up the side of the hill and cut the trunk of the tree away from the root ball.

I estimate what is left at about 60 feet in length. Hopefully, we can use the tractor and a chain to pull the tree trunk down to the field and cut it up for firewood.

Edmonson County Homecoming

We met Pauline and Brent at the Edmonson County High School to watch Kyle be an escort in the ECHS Homecoming. We arrived early so pictures could be taken, then Brent asks me if I will take pictures of all the contestants for the ladies he works with at the school. First we all sat in the bleachers and watch the JV basketball game. The Homecoming festivities were done between games. After all the contestants were announced and walked to the center of the basketball court, then it was Kyle's turn.

When the Little Misses & Little Misters had been announced, last years Homecoming Queen and her escort were announced.

Then the representatives of all four classes were announced and the Queen was crowned. The girl in the white dress was crowned Queen.

Kyle was a perfect gentleman and followed the procedure he had been asked to do exactly as he had been instructed to do without any unwanted occurrences. :-)

New Silverado

We have a new Chevy Silverado thanks to the guys at Don Franklin Burkesville Chevrolet-GMC.

They searched the internet until they found the vehicle with the specific options that we wanted, then they went and picked it up in another state and brought it to their dealership for us. We traded our 2012 Silverado in on the new one. When the deal was done, Stacey and I picked up the truck and drove to the State Farm Agent's office and insured the truck before ever going to the farm.

Now I've put in the bed mat, installed the bed cover and we're learning how to use the radio. The truck rides and drives great. Stacey and Linda like the built in WiFi so they can surf the internet as I drive.

Christmas 2015

We started our Christmas on Wednesday a little before noon. Stacey had called Jason and made plans to take him to eat and exchange gifts, but after I heard that Brent was planning on going to the Star Wars movie, we changed plans slightly. We picked Jason up at 10:45 AM and went to Glasgow. We ate, then met Brent's family at the theater and we all watched Star Wars - The Force Awakens. Our entire group seemed to enjoy the movie (if you liked the original movie you should enjoy this episode too) After the show Pauline and Brent went to the farm with their kids, but we returned to Jason's place where he and Stacey exchanged their presents.

Afterwards we returned to the farm and enjoyed playing with Julie and Kyle.
Thursday morning we did some farm work. We moved several sheets of metal siding left in the rafters of the equipment shed to the rafters of the pole barn. Birds had been roosting on the metal and their droppings were collecting on the tractors and vehicles parked below. A few days ago, I had posted about a tree down on the side of the hill. Brent took the chainsaw and climbed the hill to cut the base of the tree away from the trunk, then I used the 4 wheel drive tractor to pull the tree down the hill side. I kept pulling it through the hay field until I crossed the creek. There we cut the tree trunk into sections and hauled it in the tractor scoop to near the wood shed to be split later. Several times we took breaks and sat in the new shelter house enjoying the record warm temperatures.
Friday, Christmas Day, after 'sticky buns' for breakfast, Julie, Kyle and Stacey passed out presents.

After all the presents had been passed out, we all began opening and checking out what we had received.

Christmas night, Julie, Pauline, Kyle and Brent put on their pajamas they had received as presents.

Saturday morning we had breakfast then Pauline and Brent packed some of their gifts into their car. Others were putting on their swimming suits. Once we called and made sure the pool was open, we loaded into the Silverado and went to the Wellness Center in Albany. We went swimming for a couple of hours, then lunch at Major's Pizza and back to the farm. P&B finished their packing, everyone hugged and away they went around 2:30 PM. Stacey, Linda and I simply passed out for an hour or more, then made a come back and watched some of the Pacer game on TV.
