Plans Fall Apart
Pauline and Brent went home about 10:30 AM Friday. They left Julie and
Kyle with us at the farm and they were planning on shopping and seeing a
movie. Then we were supposed to take Julie and Kyle to Glasgow on Sunday
and meet them. Julie was going to attend a birthday party for one of her
school friends. It was a good plan, but it didn't work out.
Saturday
morning Linda told me that Stacey was having involuntary movements in
her arms and face, so I went into her bedroom and watched a few minutes.
We decided to give Stacey a 10 mg Valium to see if that would stop the
twitches. It did. We kept an eye on Stacey the rest of the day, but she
seemed to be doing OK.
Sunday morning Linda called me into Stacey's
room and we immediately gave her a 10 mg Valium at 5:30 AM. I continued
to watch Stacey and could tell that wasn't going to do the trick. I
messaged Brent and told him they would need to come pick up Julie and
Kyle because we weren't going to get that far away from the hospital
that was familiar with Stacey's condition. Pauline called when they read
the message and I explained what was happening, so she said they would
be over in a little bit. At 8:30 AM we gave Stacey another Valium to
stop the movements before she had a gran mal seizure. About 9:30 AM,
Pauline and Brent arrived and talked with Stacey and us a little bit.
They loaded up Julie and Kyle and their things and went to the birthday
party. Stacey didn't have any more problems during the day, other than
being a little slow from the Valiums.

Colder Temperatures
The law of averages finally caught up with us. The temperatures have
dropped to the teens. We had a little snow that came during the night
and melted away by lunch. You can see some of it left on the ground
where the hills cast shadows. This morning it was still cold, but there
was a fog that hung over the area. Some places were reporting that the
fog was freezing on roads over the bridges, but it wasn't happening here.
We
had heard the cold weather was on it's way a few days ago, so we had
filled up the wood racks on the back porch and we just stayed inside and
kept the fire going. Coco even enjoyed the warmth from the stove.

Tile Trip
Thursday evening we made a last minute decision to go to IN for the
weekend.
Friday when Linda came home from working at the school I was
regretting that decision. I had been watching the weather forecasts for
IN and the predictions were a Winter Storm Warning for most of the
state. I had looked at the radar and thought it might be tough driving
between Louisville and Daleville. We packed our things in the 4 wheel
drive pickup and headed out anyway. The weather wasn't bad until we were
about 25 miles south of Indy at the Edinburgh exit. Then it began
snowing and within 10 miles the snow had covered a lot of the road
surface. As we drove on towards Indy on I-65, the Garmin GPS warned us
of a bad traffic incident on I-465 and plotted a detour for us to take.
Traffic was moving slowly on the city streets while we were taking the
detour, but once we re-entered Interstate 465, with the 4 wheel drive I
was able to stay in the fast lane and pass the slower cars. We made a
quick stop at Menards for some caulk, our usual stop in Chesterfield for
groceries and a pizza and then parked the truck in the alley at the
house in Daleville. There was about 3" of snow on the ground when we
went inside.
Saturday morning we had ham on biscuits for breakfast
and then began working by installing the tile for the back splash above
the counter. I placed 3 rows of Subway style tiles all the way across
the length of the counter, then started installing the small 1" tiles we
were using as an accent. Linda was painting the new trim around the
windows and cleaning up the tile after my work was completed.
Somewhere
around 2 PM we took a break and went to Anderson. We each ate a nice
steak dinner at the Texas Road House, then stopped at Lowes for a few
tile we needed for the end of the job. We returned to the house and the
power was out in Daleville, so that kept us from working for a little
bit. About an hour later we resumed the tile job, but weren't as eager
to work as before. We were able to complete most of the tiling on one
end, but will need to use our wet saw to cut tiles to place in the gaps
the next time we work on the back splash. I'd say we have 2/3rds of the
job done.
Linda
picked up the tools and I washed the trowels, then we quit. The next
day, Kim and Kenny stopped by to see how we were doing and to talk. They
left about 1 PM and we finished cleaning up the place before packing our
gear, buying a sack of Arby's sandwiches and going to Pendleton. In
Pendleton, we stopped and ate with Linda's Mom. Reba was happy to see us
and seemed surprised that we had came up in a snow storm. We visited
with her for about an hour and a half, left her a couple extra
sandwiches, then said good bye to Nana and drove on back to KY.

Christmas 2013
Pauline
and Brent came to the farm early on Christmas Eve, so we had time to
enjoy a nice dinner and then take a few pictures.
Early
Christmas morning, Julie and Kyle were ready to open their presents. We
all tore into the packages and then took time to see what everyone else
had received.

Last IN Trip of 2013
Stacey, Linda and I packed our things and headed to IN on Sunday.
Pauline and Brent were about 2 hours ahead of us with their family. They
went to Daleville and dropped off their dogs and then took their kids to
a indoor water park in Indy. We arrived at the house and were greeted by
a bunch of barking and yapping dogs. We hung around for a while, then
P&B returned with their excited kids.
After a night's sleep and a
light breakfast we began working on the tile back splash in the kitchen.
Pauline helped me spread the mastic and set the tiles. Brent was in the
basement using the tile saw to trim the pieces we needed cut down. Linda
supplied any tools and we needed and managed the kids and dogs. It went
fairly well until we hit a snag, we had purchased two tiles with bull
nose edges on two sides for corners, but one of those had disappeared
Hmm, so Linda and Pauline made a trip to Lowes to return nearly a full
box of extra tiles and to purchase one more corner tile. Once they
returned with that tile, we placed it and Linda cleaned up our mess.
Linda
and Pauline hung the curtains and then we relaxed for a while.
Tuesday,
P&B took their kids to the Childrens' Museum in Indy. Linda and Stacey
went shopping in Muncie while I stayed at the house and relaxed. We ate
pizza when everyone returned and then went to Shelly and Jeff Huck's
house for a New Year's Eve party. It was mostly family with a few
friends, but as always, was a good time.
New Year's Day, we moved the
fridge out of the kitchen and slid the stove around so we could pull up
the old carpet before packing our things and heading to Pendleton. P&B
left first and stopped to see Nana, then we picked up some BBQ
sandwiches at the Dairy Bar and took them to Reba's house. We ate with
her and then said good bye before driving back to KY.
