Pick Up Julie

This morning it was raining, so it was good timing that we were going to be in the car most of the morning. Stacey, Linda and I left the farm about 8 AM and headed towards Smith Grove. We stopped for sausage biscuits and drinks, then went on to the Cumberland Parkway. After an hour ride, we parked in Pauline and Brent's driveway and went inside. Stacey let the dogs out while I loaded in the computer Brent had repaired for Linda. I also found the Holley carb that had been rebuilt and put it in the car too. I then strapped Julie's car seat in the back seat and went inside and set down for a minute or two. Stacey brought the dogs back in the house and put them in their area and I fastened the baby gate across their doorway. Linda had picked out clothes for Julie and all the stuff we needed to take, so we left and I drove to Julie's baby sitter. I went to the door and knocked, then the lady came to the door and Julie yelled, "That's my papa!" and came out. We spoke briefly, then Julie and I walked to the car and Stacey strapped her in her seat. We left and went to Sam's Club, bought our groceries and supplies, paid and headed for the farm. We pulled off the parkway in Glasgow and ate lunch at Long John Silver's. Julie ate well and then we headed on back to the farm. By the time I parked the car in the garage, the rain had ended and we all unloaded our stuff. Julie had arrived and after putting the stuff away, we let Daisy run while we rode in the Mule with Julie.

Cumberland River Cruise In

The Cumberland River Cruisers Car Club was holding a cruise in, so we being members of the club, had agreed to take a car to town. Since Pauline, Brent and Julie were here, we took two. Brent drove the 1965 Mustang with Stacey and Julie riding along.

Linda drove the 1958 Triumph TR-3 and I followed in P&B's Traverse. They parked in the corner of the Courthouse Square and Stacey met Jason. Stephanie and Tommy were there looking around at the cars and Stephannie took Julie walking around for a while. The first thing I think Julie noticed was their reflection in the Justice Center's doors.

There were several cars that hadn't been to Burkesville before.

One side of the Courthouse Square and a side street were filled with old cars. Stacey stayed in town and sat with Jason and his grandparents, Hazel and Otis.

Linda, Brent and I walked around and talked to several people for about an hour, then we retrieved Julie and loaded in the Traverse and went back to the farm. After a couple of hours, we returned to town, picked up Stacey and drove the cars back to the farm.

Hauling 56

The weather is changing a little bit and the nights are a little cooler. During the times Daisy has been running, I've noticed the trees are losing a few leaves. While she was going around the hay fields, earlier in the week, she spotted a squirrel climbing a tree and stopped to bark at it. I watched as she circled the tree trying to keep her eyes on the squirrel, but after a minute or two, I drove on past and Daisy followed the Mule.

Daisy likes to fish in the deeper parts of the creek. Those parts still have minnows in them and they jump across the surface of the water as she runs through the creek. She tries to catch the minnows while they are in the air, but so far has never caught one.
Brent came over Saturday with his neighbor, Wayne and his son, Tanner. They brought a truck and trailer to haul the 56 Chevy back to Brent's house. I helped them load it on the trailer and tie it down.

Then they went ATV riding around the farm. When the riding was over, they came inside and played pool for a little while before eating lunch and heading back to Smith's Grove.

Busy Work

With cooler days arriving, Stacey has been crushing the soft drink cans we have saved and bagging them. She listens to country music on her MP3 player while she crushes the cans. After they are crushed, we will take them to Columbia in a few days to the recycling business. I think they're paying about $.35 a pound for the aluminum cans.

I've been splitting a pile of wood for our wood burning stove.

The wood is mostly oak and I hope it will burn longer and provide plenty of heat this winter. We are not as busy this year since we didn't grow a single flowering mum.

Rainy Day Trip

Rain was falling as we woke and drank our coffee. The forecast was for rain off and on all day, so we decided to take a trip to Campbellsville. I wanted to buy some pieces for hooking the tractors to the equipment and one piece of metal for the new pole barn and Stacey wanted to take her aluminum cans in to the recycling business. Stacey and I loaded the cans in the back of the pickup truck. Regina brought some more cans for Stacey to crush right before we left, Stacey will do those in the coming weeks. Linda, Stacey and I drove the truck to Columbia and cashed in the cans. Stacey received $31.05 for the cans and then we went on towards Campbellsville. We stopped and ate at Betty's Fine Dinning on the way. In Campbellsville, I stopped at B&W Metal to get the metal for the pole barn but their gate was locked. We went on to Tractor Supply Company and I bought the pieces for the tractor hook ups and a pair of metal shears, then we went to a shop that Linda likes to look through. On the way back towards Columbia, I stopped at the metal shop again. The gate was still locked, but I saw an employee outside the building, so I stepped out and yelled at him about what time they would be open. He said they were closed. I asked if they were going to be open later and he said they were closed forever. He came to the gate and explained they were going out of business, but he let me in to see if they had the one piece of metal I needed. After looking around for a few minutes, we found a piece that wasn't exactly the right size, but that I could cut to fit, so I bought it. I loaded the piece in the truck and closed the gate, then drove back to the farm. After a little while at home, Linda and Stacey went to town, so I took the metal and the shears down to the pole barn and cut the piece I had bought to fit. I removed the screws holding the other pieces of metal that wrapped the pressure treated post and put the new piece on, then screwed it all back together.

Rainy Weekend

We were gone to the grocery store Friday when Pauline, Brent and Julie arrived. As we put the groceries away we talked about Pauline's doctor's appointment. The doctor told them that they are having a baby boy and everything was OK. I fixed us some sloppy joe sandwiches for supper and we enjoyed playing with Julie and the dogs the rest of the evening.
Saturday, Pauline wanted to go to the Blue Grass Festival in Burkesville to see the quilt competition. Linda and I drove the 1965 Mustang and parked it with the rest of the Cumberland River Cruisers' cars. Julie and Stacey road with us and we met P&B once they had parked. Pauline went to see the quilts while Brent and I ate some of the food being sold by vendors. Linda and Stacey went to the Home Makers booth and talked to the ladies working. Linda had to work in the booth from 3 to 6 PM. We set and listened to some of the music for a while, but as it began to sprinkle rain, we picked up our chairs and went back to the farm. Pauline and Julie took naps while I went outside and mowed with the tractor and finish mower. There has been so much rain the grass is getting too tall, so I needed to mow even though it was wet. The finish mower will cut it even when it's wet. I stopped and went inside to find the girls had finished their naps and were ready to go to town to eat. We called Linda and she was done working. She met us on the square and we all rode in the Traverse to the restaurant.
Sunday morning was rainy too. We played with Julie and I cooked chicken breasts and fried potatoes on the grill for lunch before PB&J left for home about 1:30 PM

Coco's Birthday

I received an email from Dawn, the lady from who we bought our dog, Coco. She said that September 23rd was his birthday, so I took a couple of pictures and sent them through email to her. I have also posted them below.

I mentioned that Coco has a small basket bed that Linda has set on her computer desk. Coco hops up on Linda's leg and onto the desk, then gets in the bed. He will bend his neck around the edge of the desk to see who is walking through the living room without having to jump down. He only gets in that bed while Linda is busy on the computer.

Car Club Dinner

Pauline, Brent and Julie arrived early. We tossed Julie around in the bedroom for a while as she was playing with Coco. We also went for a Mule ride while letting Daisy run around the fields. Linda had made a crock pot of vegetable soup and we ate some of it. I made a dessert to take to the Cumberland River Cruisers club dinner and Linda made a corn bread and corn casserole. PB& Stacey went to pick up Jason for the dinner and we were going to drive the 65 Mustang and meet them at the park. Julie rode with us because she likes riding in the convertible.

The Cumberland River Cruisers Club Dinner was held at the park in Burkesville. Club members and their families came for a beautiful day in the park and good food. The weather cooperated by being extra nice, with the temperatures in the mid seventies and a partly cloudy sky. Club members did a nice job of organizing with plenty of ice cold drinks to go with the hamburgers and hot dogs all furnished by the club. Each member brought a dish of their own choosing, so there was a nice assortment of vegetables and desserts. After a short blessing of the meal, members and their families began passing along the picnic tables and filling their trays.

After everyone had passed through the line and ate, members sat and talked and showed their cars to others in attendance.

We had a nice time and I believe everyone that came did also. Nice job by the members that worked to make it fun and enjoyable for everyone. Thanks! You can see more pictures by visiting the Cumberland River Cruisers web site.

Julie Stays Over

PB&J came over Sunday morning and stayed with us. They're were going to California on Tuesday for a wedding and were leaving Julie with us for the rest of the week. I think it was tougher on them leaving Julie than it was on Julie. She just said good bye and they were the ones that were a little upset about it when they had to leave for home Monday.
Tuesday, Brent called us from near Dallas early in the morning, while they were changing planes, and Pauline talked to Julie a few minutes to see how she was doing. A little later, we went to Columbia and let Julie eat at McDonalds. We saw Bonnie and Henry Holley with Samantha and Jackson while we were eating. We came back to the farm and Brent called and let us know they had landed in San Jose and were headed to the hotel., then we took Julie to Salem Park to let her play on the playground equipment.

Julie went running from the car to the playground and began climbing on the smaller set. She was yacking and having fun going up and down the slide, then she went over and rode the large dinosaur. Stacey went on the larger equipment with Julie to make sure she didn't fall.

We stayed for a while and let Julie get her fill of playing on the playground while Linda called her Mom. Julie was ready to go, so we loaded in the HHR and headed to the farm. Stacey told Nana good bye before we lost the cell phone connection.
