Hay Fields

All of the hay fields have been cut, raked and rolled. The guys got it done just before it rained.
This morning we took Daisy to run and did a count of the rolls. Garmons had made 46 rolls in the fields across from the house. David McIntyre had made 29 rolls in the fields he and Larry Anderson have leased.

Julie and Kyle climbed onto one of the rolls of hay while Daisy ran around them.

We stopped at the gravel bar in the creek to let Julie and Kyle take some old fashion batting practice like I used to do when I was a kid and lived on this farm. A piece of drift wood and all the rocks they want to hit with nothing to break.

It might be hard for some to believe, but they both are getting better with their hand/eye coordination. They like it and don't even know it is helping them with sports.

Trip To Daleville

We left the farm Saturday morning at 6 AM and headed to Daleville. With an early start, traffic was light most of the way and we arrived before noon. We unloaded the Equinox and then had a pizza for lunch around 1 PM. Linda and Stacey went to Kim & Kenny Bourke's house for their grandson, Jordan's graduation party.
Sunday morning we had a light breakfast, then took a ride around town in the golf cart. Just before lunch, we headed to Pendleton to visit with Nana. We purchased sandwiches at Arbys' on the way. When we arrived, Reba was cooking chicken noodle soup with mashed potatoes, but quickly turned those off and started eating the roast beef sandwiches we had carried into the kitchen. We stayed and visited with her for nearly 4 hours before leaving. I drove to Linda K & Imon's house, but no one was home. Next we stopped at Shelly & Jeff Huck's house, but again, no one was home. We returned to Daleville.
At 3 AM Monday morning, Linda woke me and told me Stacey was burning up and she was giving her Motrin. OK? About a half hour later, I noticed Stacey's arms were trembling. These symptoms are usually indications of Stacey about to have a seizure, so Linda and I decided to give Stacey 10 mg of Valium along with her other meds. The Valium usually causes Stacey to become more alert and responsive, but not this time. She became drowsie and slept for hours. Then severe diarrhea set in and I began to realize that this wasn't seizure related, but an illness. We kept Stacey hydrated and used Motrin to curb her temperature, but could not get her to eat all day Tuesday.
Wednesday the diarrhea had let up somewhat, so we decided to pack things up and head for KY, while we had a chance. We never attempted to put down any of the tile flooring in the dinning and living rooms, which is what the trip was supposed to accomplish. We left Daleville early and immediately were in the Indy traffic created by people going to work. During the car ride to KY, Linda and I discussed taking Stacey to the doctor on Thursday, if she wasn't better. Not stopping to eat got us home before lunch. At home, Linda said Stacey needed something to stop the diarrhea, so I drove to Dr Rice's clinic and asked the nurse what we should do. She told me that Dr Rice was in the ER at the hospital and to take Stacey there to see him. I returned to the house and we loaded Stacey into the car and I took her to the ER. After blood tests, Dr Rice said it was a viral infection and prescribed a medicine to stop the diarrhea, but for her to drink Gatorade and juice. He said her seizure medication levels were good and that other people had been experiencing passing out and severe weakness from these flu like symptoms too. Linda picked up the prescription and the recommended fluids while I took Stacey on home.
Thursday, Stacey was a little better.
Friday, a little better, but not quite back to normal yet.

Valeri & Bob Visit

We returned home from watching Julie & Kyle play their ball games and found a message on our answering machine. Valerie Bankson had left the message stating that they were on their way to Myrtle Beach and would be coming back on Wednesday. She wanted to know if it would be OK for them to stop and visit with us and for us to call and let them know. Linda called to tell them that would be great and we would be expecting them.
Wednesday, Valeri called and said they would be arriving later than expected, but were still coming. That was OK with us. Linda began fixing supper and we kept it warm until they arrived around 8 PM. Valeri's Mom & Dad, Peggy & Steve, were following in their new pickup truck and also stopped. After a few hugs and some conversation we all ate dinner. Valeri, Keirsten, Stacey & Linda cleaned up, then joined with Steve, Bobby and I for more talking until nearly midnight. Graham, Christopher & Stacey played Nintendo until they went to bed earlier.
Thursday morning after breakfast, Valeri wanted Linda to show her parents our farm, so they loaded into the Mule and took the tour. Peggy and Valeri picked up several hundred pounds of rocks, then Bobby and Steve loaded them into the back of the pickup truck to haul to IN. We stopped at the 'pop sickle barn' and Graham and Christopher grabbed pop sickles and headed to the rope swing.

After a few minutes in the barn checking out the old cars they all came out and sat at the shelter house. I asked them to pose for a picture before they loaded up and left for IN.

Ski Trip #1

Brent and family came over Saturday morning to go boating on Dale Hollow Lake. They had taken Stacey with them on Thursday, but Linda and I did not go along. We were going this time and had purchased a bunch of lunch meat, buns and fruit for everyone to eat while on the lake. Susie Mader had posted they had bought a new pontoon and I made a comment about we were going to the lake, so Gary and I made plans to meet in Pulsey Creek around lunch time. The Maders had bought a new Bennington tri-toon. It was a pretty, nice boat. Everyone swam in the water and talked until around 1 PM, then we pulled up anchor first and moved to the middle of the finger let to do some skiing

Julie went first and popped right up, skied a short way then dropped off. A little more coaching and she took two more turns. Kyle was our next victim

He was a little harder to get going since it had been half a year since his last experience on skis. But he made it up and went a little ways, three different times. Brent was the last one to go. He fought his way up on the Jobe slalom ski and threw a trail of water back and forth across the boat's wake. He held on until his hands gave out, then dropped off and rested until I brought the boat and rope back to his location. The third time was all he wanted.

Each one did well for their first time of the year. Julie asked to get ice cream, so I drove the boat to Willow Grove and they went inside and made their choices, then returned to the boat. We rode for a while towards Wolf River Dock, then pulled into Sewell Creek and anchored the boat in the shade of the hill. The kids had enough sun and it let us extend our time on the lake without getting them sun burned. We pulled the boat off the lake a little after 7 PM, towed it back to the farm and backed it into the pole barn.
