Weekend

Pauline, Brent and their kids came over Friday evening. We went to the Farmhouse and had supper. Their food is really good and the salad bar has lots of options.
Saturday morning, we dressed after breakfast and went to the Burkesville Cemetery to bury Mom's ashes. The funeral director met us there and had the grave opened and ready. We had the ashes placed in the ground, had a moment of silence and then we left the cemetery. We went back to the farm and changed clothes. Wanting something to do, we decided to go to the Peddler's Mall in Campbellsville. After walking through there we ate at the Creekside Restaurant in Campbellsville. Brent drove us to Central Furniture and everyone looked through their three showrooms of furniture. Later in the day, back at the farm, Linda and Brent filled the inflatable pool with air and warm water for the kids to swim. We sat on the back porch and watched and laughed at Julie and Kyle as they played in the pool.

Sunday we waited for the weather to clear so the car club could have a Cruisin' The Square event, but it never cleared up. In fact, it poured down rain off and on most of the day. Pauline and Brent had dinner with us then left their kids and headed home about 3:30 PM.

Return Of The Sea Ray

Wednesday we went to Cumberland Sea Ray and picked up the boat after the repairs had been made. We towed it to the farm and put the truck and boat in the pole barn.
Thursday we went to Columbia and purchased groceries and goodies for the boating trip we had planned for Friday and Saturday.
Friday morning everyone was up early and ready to go. Linda had taken care of most of the preparations the night before and it was just a matter of feeding the hungry kids and loading things into the truck and boat. We pulled the truck and boat out of the pole barn and transferred the things from the Mule to the boat and truck and we left the farm a little bit before 8:30 AM. We already had ice and the boat was full of gas so no stops were necessary on the way to the dock. At the State Park Dock we uncovered the boat and Stacey and Linda climbed in. I backed the truck and trailer into the water, Linda started the boat while I unhooked it from the trailer and she drove it off the trailer and pulled out into the deeper water. I parked the truck and Julie, Kyle and I walked back down to the courtesy dock where Linda pulled the boat up to the dock. I sat the kids in the boat and we were under way. After idling out of the dock area, Julie and Kyle wanted me to go fast, so we did. The boat ran perfect and the lake was really smooth. We ran the boat for about 20 minutes to make sure everything was working and the batteries were charged, then we stopped and went swimming. About an hour later, Lana and Frank Dial pulled in and anchored their boat near us. Then Susan and Danny Rockhill joined the group. The water was chilly when we first jumped in, but about 30 seconds later it seemed OK. We made a run up to the cliffs near Wolf River and after a while up there, I told everyone we had to go back to the dock to pick up Pauline and Brent. They left work early and were waiting at the dock when we pulled into the cove at 2 PM. They had just arrived, so the timing worked out well. We met up with some more of our friends by accident, then spent the rest of the afternoon swimming and talking with each other. Gary Brown was riding in his daughter's, Brandy's boat. Cindy and Bruce Beck were in that boat too. Brandy and her husband, Tom took Brent and Julie for a ride and they let Brent try surfing behind their boat. We pulled the boat off the lake around 6:30 PM.
Saturday we had sausage biscuits for breakfast and then headed back to the lake. We were a little later this time as there was more to do, fill the gas tank and get snack supplies. We left the dock area about 10:20 AM and headed out to meet up with Lana and Frank again. We called them on the marine radio and made plans to meet in Pusley Cove. Danny and Susan joined us a few minutes later. We swam and played for a couple of hours before Cindy and Bruce came in. We left the group for a few minutes and took Julie, Kyle and Brent knee boarding before heading out on a mission.

We met with the others and headed towards Sunset Dock for supper. We stopped in Jolly Creek to swim and had our boats and fire extinguishers checked by the DNR while we were anchored there. After an hour of swimming, we loaded into the boat and went to Sunset. We tied up at the dock and went inside, had a nice meal, then told everyone 'so long' and headed back towards the State Park. We trailered the boat about 15 mintues before 8 PM, then towed it back to the farm and parked in the pole barn.
The boat had performed perfectly during the two days since getting it back. Cumberland Sea Ray had replaced the complete lower unit and put on a new stainless steel propeller and it worked like it was brand new. They did excellent work and everything was done for "NO CHARGE" thanks to their staff and the folks at Sea Ray.

* UPDATE > 6-30-13 Cumberland Sea Ray contacted me and there was a $616 charge that the company did not pay. It was for the labor to remove and replace the lower unit and installation of a shift cable.

Mid-Week Cruise

Stacey, Linda and I packed our small coolers and some towels, then drove the truck with the boat to the State Park Dock. Linda drove the boat off the trailer, I parked the truck and trailer, then walked to the dock where Linda picked me up. It was a beautiful day, perfect temperature, smooth water and cold drinks.

Hardly any other boats on the lake, just peace and quiet, until we turned on the stereo. lol
No kids, no friends, nothing but relaxing. Linda and I needed a day like that. All too soon it was over and we headed to the dock, put the boat on the trailer and drove back to the farm.

Saturday On The Lake

Pauline, Brent, Julie, Kyle and their dogs arrived early Friday afternoon. We hung around the farm and played with the kids and the dogs until bedtime.
Saturday was another day on the lake, so we packed the gear, coolers and food and headed to the lake in the truck. I drove the boat off the trailer and was ready to move into the middle of the dock area when Linda said another boat on the dock was having problems. I asked if their boat would start and they said "no". I pulled the Sea Ray up close to their boat and we hooked up the jumper cables and the guy started his boat. Brent had walked back from parking the truck and trailer by then, so he stepped in the Sea Ray and we went boating. We had a great day, the kids both were able to ride the knee boards and we swam and played in the lake. The water was getting warmer and everyone enjoyed it. As we were pulling the boat out of the water to go home, we heard a heck of a lot of noise. Everyone on the dock watched as a man pulled his truck up the boat ramp, their boat came off the trailer and he drug it out of the water and about 20 feet up the dock. A woman was running after the truck trying to get him to stop. He finally stopped when the boat was setting on the concrete dock with a strap hooked to the front and to his trailer about 30 feet further up the ramp. WOW! We were amazed and glad we hadn't pulled such a stunt. We took the boat home and put it in the pole barn without an incident.
Sunday, Brent and I needed to use the tractor to drag a downed tree out of the hay field. Julie and Kyle put on long pants and their boots so they could go help.

After the work was done, I cooked chicken breasts on the grill with potatoes, green peppers and onions wrapped in foil. Pauline, Julie and Brent headed home around 3:30 PM. Kyle chose to stay the week with us.

Kyle Visits

Kyle decided to stay with us for a week at the farm. So far it has went really well. I found Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle cartoons for him to watch when he comes into the bedroom early in the mornings. Right now, they're his favorite show. He eats a bunch every morning, a bowl of cereal with either a PB&J on toast or 'sticky buns'. I've tried to switch Kyle from playing like everything is a fight over to structured play. He still likes to grab up his action figures and beat them together though. This morning, we laid in the floor and played with the Brio Train Set.

It worked for a short time. Kyle has done excellent when we have taken him to eat at the restaurants in town. He has learned to sit fairly still and to lower his voice while we are inside. Today, a woman at the next table told him he was really good at singing the ABCs, even though he only made it to the middle of the alphabet. lol

Lacy Stays The Day

This morning, after Linda talking with Karen, Jimmy King brought Lacy to stay with us for the day.

Karen's Dad had to be taken to the hospital and she needed someone to take care of Lacy while she went to see about him. Linda is Lacy's aide at school, so Lacy was comfortable with coming to the farm. Kyle and Lacy swam in the pool and played with the wooden train.

Kyle Goes Home

Friday morning, Linda packed up Kyle's clothes and he gave me a few hugs before they left for the ride to meet Brent at his house. Stacey went too and they all went swimming once they met with Pauline and Brent. Linda and Stacey returned to the farm a little before dark.
Saturday, we spent part of the day mowing the grass and getting caught up on our farm work.
